Conversations With "Dear Alexa"Parent's Perspective - Rising Above the Conflict

BRAVA GIRL!

BRAVA GIRL!

I heard you say some incredibly empowering things on your phone call with your mother last night.  In my defense, you did answer her call while we were watching Wednesday on Netflix together.

“Luckily I don’t believe that.” A pause while you took in whatever came next.

“That’s your memory, not mine.”

BRAVA!

I totally did a cheerleader roundoff, triple backhand spring in my thoughts in celebration.

Not only are you recognizing some of mom’s “mis-information,” but it’s clear that your therapist is giving you some seriously empowering tools on how to manage mom’s attempts to alienate you from your father.

Just know this – Therapy never would have happened if not for your amazing Dad.  His insistence that it be included in the parenting plan and several rounds in Court to enforce it has cost Dad a small fortune. But last night it was all worth it.  More than that, it was BEYOND WORTH IT.

We’ve heard so many stories about how long it takes for kids to reconnect with alienated parents – sometimes never – that we’ve been patiently rising above mom’s prodding and making sure that you know every single day that you are dearly loved and wanted.  To now know that you are already recognizing the alienation tactics and learning how to set healthy personal boundaries at the tender age of 14 makes my heart sing.

YOU ARE TRULY AMAZING

We’ve got a few more hurdles to go before legal matters are settled but I’m still doing celebratory back-flips in my head.  Dad’s making sure that YOU are empowered with choice when it comes to when and how long you want to spend time with us.  It’s called “teenage discretion” and you’re going to absolutely love the new living arrangements we’re currently working on.
