Dear Alexa’s wings have been clipped under the guise of total freedom… and there is nothing her loving father or I can do about it.
Stepping back and allowing some seriously bad “sans parenting” was painful – but necessary to break the “dad’s entirely to blame” united front.
Sometimes a good parent needs to step back and simply love and support an amazing daughter’s budding ideas and choices. Trust that one day she’ll be making plans to spend time with us – All the wiser for having this experience.
We know how horrible it would be to have Dear Alexa leave and not communicate for over a year – We know because we experienced it.
Dear Birth Mother – I wish you nothing but happiness. May you find closure and release so that you may move on with your life. May you create and attract from a positive space so that you may experience love and connection.
Allowing kids to fail doesn’t mean we’re bad parents. It means we’re showing them that they have every resource available within themselves to pick themselves up and go again.
Forgiveness could very well be the most empowering choice you can make when you’ve been “wronged” by another. For releasing resentments towards another will set you free.
While mom was selfishly concerned with winning her vacation demand, Dad was quietly fighting for You.
How else will you know for absolute certain that teenagers don’t break into spontaneous song after seeing a cute guy in the hallway, achieve instant popularity on a makeover bet, or dance in perfectly choreographed unison at the prom?*
There’s something reassuring about renovating and improving physical space that helps us move forward even when we can’t make sense of this messed up situation.
While life gets SO much better after Jr. High School… You still need to go.
