Taking a Stand & Remodeling a Casita

Taking a Stand & Remodeling a Casita

Dad took a rather bold stand with your mom today – Yes, we are fully aware of what that means…

Moms three week trip (conveniently scheduled over two big holidays) wasn’t an ask it was a full-out demand. We will be out of the country… and yes, fully determined to take every holiday away from Dad as well.

I dedicated a post to the unsavory behaviors – Hostile tactics some people use to get what they want. This particular demand today included:

  • Entitlement – Not only does mom feel she deserves to get what she wants, but it also comes at Dad’s expense.
  • Control – Demanding makes it clear that Dad doesn’t get a say.
  • Winning at all costs – No Matter What – That includes hijacking Christmas.
  • Needing to be right – Especially when they’re wrong. Manipulating the truth to ensure they’re right.

We are fully prepared to be served with an injunction to appear before a judge by tomorrow.

But here’s the thing about threats… they often backfire.  Perhaps because they’re made from an overly emotional state and the need to belittle and exert control over another. Maybe because the sheer energy that goes behind making a sordid threat naturally carries negative karma. Or (another one of dad’s favorite quotes) if you bring all the liars to the table, the truth will come out.

Truth that mom has been in contempt for the past eight months… Truth that you are struggling educationally without the parental support of your Dad… Truth that you are also struggling emotionally without Dad’s unconditional love in your life.

But perhaps the hardest truth of all – that life could be so much better without the needless drama, constant powerplays, and threats.

As for me, I would much rather be sitting around our kitchen island tonight picking out IKEA furniture for our casita remodel.  I found great decorating ideas for stenciling the tile floors and using reclaimed slats of wood for a headboard.  Did we ever decide what color to paint the walls?  I remember how excited you were to help fix it up with us…

I can’t wait for all this drama to settle.
