Mom has my empathy. But only because I have such firm personal boundaries. I care without carrying. And I look forward to teaching Dear Alexa how to do the same.
Forgiveness could very well be the most empowering choice you can make when you’ve been “wronged” by another. For releasing resentments towards another will set you free.
Having a close and loving relationship with your father begins with learning how to have healthy boundaries with mom.
Understanding what someone fears the most is powerful. It brings a level of compassion for someone’s core truth that is exposed through their unsavory behaviors. Use this knowledge wisely.
While you are likely resenting it now, Dad’s strength and iron-clad boundaries will someday teach you that YOU are strong enough to define and defend your own “no means no” moments in life.
